China & Mongolia

Our itinerary is well established and proven, and this, our 13th tour to China was led by Michael Johnson, click here for his CV.

The tour started in Hong Kong and then headed for the Mainland: Guilin, Li River cruise to Yangshou (the ideal place to buy gifts for the family), visit to Xi’an (Terracotta Warriors & the awesome Provincial Museum), Chongqing and a 3-night Yangtze River Cruise. We disembarked after the 3 Gorges Dam at Yichang and flew to Shanghai to behold this amazing city, “built overnight at breakneck speed”. We ogled at the famous Shanghai acrobats and enjoyed a visit to their stunning Provincial Museum. This was followed by a day visit on a double-decker train to the home of silk in nearby “Suzhou”. The tour rounded off with a visit to the political heart of the country and its capital Beijing: Tian Men Square,The Forbidden City, Great Wall, Pandas at the zoo, Peking duck delicacy and Peking Opera fun.

The tour was followed by an optional extension to Mongolia, visiting the capital of Ulan Bator and outlying areas.

The following are sketched made by one of the travellers in China, Tony Grogan.
