Ethiopia

Titch has had two tours very successful tours to the fascinating and ancient land of Ethiopia, formerly known as Abyssinia, one of only two countries in Africa never to have been colonised.  Michael led a tour in 2010 at the end of 2014 rugged Ralph Roseman – click here for CV, led a group on a “trek safari”.

Our 2014 tour started in Addis Ababa, visiting various towns, including the unique Muslim city of Harar, known for the “Hyena Man” and made famous by the French poet, Arthur Rimbaud. The group travelled onto the Danakil Depression, a fascinating landscape formed by volcanic activity in the Great Rift Valley system and one of the lowest parts of the world (deepest point 120m below sea level) where its main attractions are the active volcano Mount Ert Ale (with permanent eruptions or constant lava stream), the Dalol Desert with its hot springs, salt lakes and salt caravans, archaeological sites, including the place where Lucy was discovered.

Ralph will be leading our next trip to this amazing country in November 2016.
