The Roseman honeymoon of 5 months was spent, surprise upon surprise, back-packing in South America, on their way to settle in Canada for 6 years. This might have been enough to upset any new bride, notwithstanding Valja emerged strong and triumphant and they have already celebrated their half century of marriage, which has produced 3 vibrant sons, who are in turn the proud parents of a total of 5 offspring.
Ralph has been an active Rotarian over the years, a member of the Rotary Club of Roggebaai in Cape Town, and while posted by Old Mutual to London was a member of the Rotary Club of Chelsea. He is Chairman of the local branch of the International Caravan Fellowship of Rotary (ICFR).
Ralph and Valja retired in 1994 (a momentous year in South Africa’s history) when they felt the urge to explore the world further, and bought a motor home, enabling them to travel extensively in Central Europe, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Iceland, the Baltic States and Morocco.
Ralph’s climbing destinations/experiences have taken him to Mont Blanc in the Alps, Mount Everest base camp and to other mountains in Patagonia, Pakistan, Nepal, Central Africa and the Dolomites in Italy, as well as many local climbing/hiking trips in South Africa.
Ralph has led a couple of successful Titch trips to Ethiopia, including trekking in the Simien National Park and will lead our 5th tour to that country in November 2017.
